MALTA FOOTBALL EXCLUSIVE: The Malta National ‘A’ Team are locking in for a high-stakes autumn action clash after confirming a fiery international friendly against Liechtenstein this coming September!
Head Coach Emilio De Leo and his boys are getting set to light up the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali on Sunday, 27th September 2026 (18:30 CEST kick-off) as they gear up for their massive UEFA Nations League campaign.
NATIONS LEAGUE WARFARE REVEALED!
Malta’s international calendar is looking stacked! De Leo’s squad has been drawn into a dramatic UEFA Nations League group alongside regional rivals Andorra and Gibraltar.
The showdown against Liechtenstein comes at the absolute perfect moment—slap-bang in the middle of Malta’s explosive away opener against Andorra and a high-voltage home clash against Gibraltar!
NEW FIFA CALENDAR REVOLUTION!
Football fans are in for a treat thanks to FIFA’s brand-new international calendar shake-up!
Instead of the usual short autumn breaks, FIFA has merged the September and October slots into one mega extended international window, allowing national sides to play up to four grueling matches in a row.
This extended break gives Coach De Leo the ultimate battleground to test player form, try out fresh tactical tweaks, and push his squad to peak physical condition before taking on their group rivals.
“AN INVALUABLE OPPORTUNITY”
The Malta FA is urging fans to rally behind the boys as the team looks to build serious momentum, develop squad chemistry, and secure crucial international rankings.
Official confirmation from the Malta FA highlighted the strategic importance of the fixture:
“The Malta National ‘A’ Team will take on Liechtenstein in an international friendly match during the September window.
The match will take place on 27th September 2026 at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali, as the team continues to prepare for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. Kick-off is at 18:30hrs (CEST).
The team, led by Head Coach Emilio De Leo, will be commencing their UEFA Nations League campaign in September, in a group joined by Andorra and Gibraltar. The international friendly will take place between Malta’s away opener against Andorra and the home fixture against Gibraltar.
This will be the first year during which the changes to the FIFA international match calendar will come into effect. Instead of three autumn international windows, there will be two breaks for national team matches, with the September and October windows being combined into one extended window, encompassing up to four matches. The November international window will remain unchanged.
De Leo will be using the friendly to assess players’ form and to further integrate players within the squad, while also maintaining match fitness during a longer September window. The encounter represents a great opportunity for the National Team to continue gaining further international experience.”
TICKET INFO COMING SOON!
Match tickets for the Ta’ Qali clash will be released shortly via official Malta FA channels. Expect a sell-out crowd as the Maltese faithful gather to back De Leo’s army!
