Old Rivals Head to Ta’ Qali as Floriana and Valletta Battle for the 40th BOV Super Cup

The stage is set for a blockbuster launch to the domestic season as arch-rivals Floriana and Valletta collide in the 40th edition of the BOV Super Cup on Monday night at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali.

Both sets of coaches and players came face to face at Saturday’s pre-match press conference, raising the heat on an already fierce rivalry. With the first major silverware of the campaign up for grabs, both sides are determined to lay down an early marker.

Champions vs Trophy Winners

League champions Floriana enter the tie looking to add to their sparse collection in this competition. Despite their illustrious history in Maltese football, the Greens have lifted the Super Cup just twice. Floriana head coach Daniel Portela emphasised the significance of the clash, acknowledging that the deep-seated rivalry adds an extra competitive edge to what is already a high-stakes occasion.

On the other side stand FA Trophy holders Valletta, the undisputed kings of the competition. The Citizens dominate the Super Cup roll of honour with an unmatched 13 titles.
