MeDirect Bank (Malta) plc is now the Official Banking Partner of the Malta Premier League (MPL), marking the beginning of a strategic collaboration that extends far beyond traditional sponsorship and reflects a shared commitment to the long-term development of Maltese football.

The partnership will see MeDirect support the Malta Premier League across several key strategic initiatives designed to strengthen the financial and infrastructural foundations of the game.

As part of the agreement, MeDirect will become the banking partner for the Malta Premier League’s ambitious new football stadium project in Marsa. The bank will work alongside the League in providing banking solutions and financial expertise to support one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Maltese football, which aims to deliver a modern, purpose-built home for the Malta Premier League while enhancing the country’s sporting facilities.

In addition, MeDirect will support two major initiatives recently launched by the Malta Premier League. These initiatives are designed to drive the continued professionalisation of football clubs in Malta and to support the development of homegrown footballing talent.

Together, these initiatives represent a significant investment in the future of Maltese football, ensuring clubs are better equipped to compete both on and off the pitch while creating a more sustainable football ecosystem.

Speaking on the partnership, Alan Abela, CEO of the Malta Premier League, said, “We are delighted to welcome MeDirect as our Official Banking Partner. This partnership goes beyond financial services; it represents a shared vision for the future of Maltese football. The support towards the Marsa Stadium project and our new development funds demonstrates MeDirect’s confidence in our long-term strategy and commitment to helping us build stronger clubs and better infrastructure for generations to come.”

Massimo Debono, Head – Corporate Financing at MeDirect Bank Malta, said, “This strategic collaboration with MPL highlights the bank’s continued focus on supporting Maltese organisations who are committed to improving standards and creating more sustainable operating models in whichever sector they operate. Wherever we see the focus on quality and innovation demonstrated by the MPL, MeDirect is always willing to engage constructively to provide the financial solutions required.
